LCD Weekly Issue - 037 - A bit of everything
⛰️ Words from the mountains
Last week, we wrapped up our fifth cohort of the course "Shifting from Human to Life-Centered Design." Throughout the journey, one word truly captures the essence of this group: empathy. Their compassion and understanding have shone brightly in every discussion and project. Next week, I look forward to sharing the beautiful and inspiring projects they created, which reflect their heartfelt commitment to making a difference!
If you would like to join, our waiting list is open for next year's spring! Check all the info here.
🐅 LCD in the Wild - Buy Nothing Day
Black Friday has a profound negative impact on the environment, and we could easily dedicate an entire newsletter to discussing it. However, we choose to spotlight a powerful movement that actively opposes this day of uncontrolled consumerism.
Buy Nothing Day!
"Buy Nothing Day takes place on Friday November 29th, it's a 24 hour detox from consumerism and an opportunity for you to tune into the impact we have on the environment through shopping.
People around the world will make a pact with themselves to take a break from consumption as a personal experiment or public statement, and the best thing is - IT'S FREE!!!"
🪄 Inspiration- Two Pages Project
A few weeks ago, we discovered the Two Pages Project thanks to a design newsletter we follow, It's Nice That.
"Two Pages is a series of nomadic sketchbooks shared by designers, artists, and illustrators around the world.
Since 2012, Two Pages connects local and international creative communities through raw creativity and spontaneous mark-making. It is an ongoing effort to record, spread and exchange ideas through the hand-to-hand journey of each book."
The fact that it connects creative communities through a physical item, the hand drawing, and the making part gives LCD vibes.
🔥 Hot in the School - Online free Workshop + Course
Tomorrow, we will host an Impact Mapping Online Workshop.
Together with our team, we have been working on a method to understand our design's impact better. We often discuss creating impact or value in our design profession, but these discussions often stay abstract. With this method, we try to make them more tangible.
We invite you to test it and share what you learn so that we can improve it when needed.
