Impact Mapping Online Workshop

Together with our team, we have been working on a method to understand our design's impact better. We often discuss creating impact or value in our design profession, but these discussions often stay abstract. With this method, we try to make them more tangible.

We invite you to test it and share what you learn so that we can improve it when needed.

The Method

This NEW Life-Centered Design Method helps you understand your design's impact on nature, communities, and the economy and determine what changes you need to make to achieve the best result. We identify five steps.

  1. Describe the context of your design

  2. Make a prototype of your design

  3. Map the impact using your prototype

  4. Understand Direct / Indirect Impact

  5. Iterate for Impact, not for Perfection

You can read more details in our new blog.

Join us on Wednesday, November 27, for an online event to test our new method and tools.

Time: 3 - 4:30 pm CET

Place: Zoom

Non-Human Persona Workshop in the Park - London Edition

Non-Human Persona Workshop: Let's give nature a voice in the park!
€0.00

Join us at Regents Park in London for this workshop hosted by Design for Good and Life-Centered Design School.

In the park we will explore what it means to design for life with non-human perspectives at the heart of creativity. You meet other passionate designers who want to create an impact during this POP-Up event while learning the tools of LCD. Together, we will create vulnerable stories from the point of view of the trees, birds, insects, or other species that live in the park.

Do you ever stop to see, smell, feel, or hear the nature around you as a designer?

Nature is all around, even in urban environments. However, we never seem to recognise its beauty because we are in a hurry. In modern life, we have to reconnect with nature, giving us life, health, and joy.

As designers, we can help our fellow citizens connect with the world around us by designing our products, services, and organisations in a life-centered way. This starts with having conversations with nature and other unheard voices and including them in our design work.

Non-Human Personas (NHP):

Non-human personas are a way to create an emotional connection with nature and non-human entities in Life-Centered Design through scientific research, creativity, and imagination. They help you understand the needs and perspectives of non-human actors and create designs that include them. Creating a non-human persona involves scientific research, immersive research, emotional narrative, and communication through various mediums.

The workshop:

During this active, imaginative, and immersive activity, you will first give nature a voice in the park by creating a Non-Human Persona. After we present the park's voices, we share what we have learned during the workshop. Rest assured, we will provide all the necessary workshop materials. All you need to bring is your imagination!

Shifting from Human to Life-Centered Design

Timezones: 12.00 pm CST & MDT, 2.00 pm EDT, 8.00 pm CET

Are you a designer, a design or an innovation lead? Then, this webinar is for you!

What if your new design client is an ancient glacial lake? How might we design for a future where our products, services and businesses protect and regenerate biodiversity on Earth instead of destroying it?

The Life-Centered Design methodology helps answer these questions to create future-proven pathways beyond human needs. It includes biological ecosystems and invisible communities that never had a voice in the design process before.

We invite you to the Life-Centered Design webinar we created for you and your design and innovation teams. This short journey will teach you about the Life-Centered Design philosophy, approach, and mindsets.

What do you gain with Life-Centered Design?

  • Clarity about your impact on the world.

  • A holistic mindset toward a regenerative way of design.

  • Frameworks and tools that help you design with all forms of life in mind.

  • New relations with the natural life and communities in your ecosystem.

  • Strategies & pathways that focus on the future of the planet, your business, and your community.

  • Opportunities in new markets with clients that resonate with sustainability & regeneration.

LCD Talks # 2: Life-Centered Design and Facilitation

Welcome to our new monthly event, LCD Talks! After years of hosting free webinars, we wanted to spice things up and involve more epic people in the mix. In this space, we will discuss different topics and their relation to Life-Centered Design, ending with a live Q&A.

Daniel Wirtz will join us during our second LCD Talk to explore the facilitation of life-centred and sustainable design processes and workshops. Designing more holistically changes the way we facilitate a design process. Decisions are made differently in other moments. The rhythm of a workshop might change. And much more

We invited our friend and co-founder of the Facilitator School to shed some light on facilitation. Together, we explore how facilitation might change when you organise workshops and guide the design process with a sustainable or life-centred purpose.

In the first 40 minutes, Daniel and Jeroen have an in-depth conversation, followed by the Q&A, during which you can ask questions about Life-Centered Design and facilitation.

And it is time to answer some of them with Thorsten, an experienced UXer and sustainability advocate.

During our conversation, we will discuss Sustainable UX, its differences and similarities with Life-Centered Design, and why both approaches are relevant now.

In the first 40 minutes, Thorsten & Jeroen have an in-depth conversation, followed by the Q&A where you can ask questions about UX and Life-Centered Design.
