LCD Weekly Issue - 052 - Regenerative Design and LCD

⛰️ Words from the mountains:

When I talk to people about Life-Centered Design, a common response is:

"Oh, so it's like Regenerative Design?"

My honest answer has often been, "Maybe?"—because I wasn't sure what Regenerative Design entailed. That curiosity sparked this new blog.

I've gathered five powerful definitions from thought leaders and organizations deeply involved in regeneration to better understand the concept and explore where it overlaps with and diverges from Life-Centered Design.

This Week's Inspo:

Book: Catalysts: Thoughts on Design Research for Meaningful Change - Explores how design research can become a strategic tool for addressing complex social, cultural, and environmental challenges. Through real-world case studies and reflective essays, it reveals how designers can act as facilitators of systemic change by deeply engaging with context, stakeholders, and long-term impact.

Video: Life-Centered Design, Proyectos y casos reales- Hace un par de semanas compartimos un evento online junto a La Nave Nodriza, como adelanto exclusivo de nuestro taller de verano en La Insólita: Life-Centered Design Leadership.

Art: Jonas Frei is a landscape architect, nature and documentary filmmaker, urban ecologist, illustrator, and author. I discovered his work on Instagram and fell in love with his compositions. The simplicity of nature and his impeccable craftsmanship is fantastic.

Reader Question: How can I start implementing Life-Centered Design in my company? It feels lonely here sometimes, as no one knows or cares much about sustainability, nature, or the planet.

Our Take: We understand that navigating closed corporations, which often prioritize profit over everything else, can be challenging. However, organizations need someone like you to initiate meaningful change! When we collaborate with companies that may not be open to our life-centered design approach, we still strive to integrate this mindset by applying an LCD lens, engaging with the environment, and utilizing various tools. We avoid using terminology that could lead to confusion or resistance.

Nature Journaling is the practice of thoughtfully observing and recording the natural world through a blend of drawing, writing, and inquiry. It encourages close attention to details in plants, animals, weather, and landscapes, fostering a deeper connection to nature. Rather than focusing on artistic or scientific perfection, nature journaling emphasizes curiosity, personal reflection, and mindfulness, making it a valuable tool for learning, creativity, and environmental awareness.

We love the work done by the Wild Wonder Foundation and recommend checking out their website and resources.

I am a passionate designer and mountain biker focusing on bringing people forward using a human centered approach. As a designer you could call what I do Social Design, but nowadays there are hundreds of different design names. So for me I am a designer and try to be humble to the world. I like solving issues together with other people in co-design and I love helping people reach there goals.

I find inspiration in mountain biking, traveling and in my current home the Spanish Pyrenees. I use sports, traveling and being outside to get inspired for my work as a designer.

Design to me is constantly shitifing between making meaningful products to creating impactful and real solutions/ approaches/ business that can make a difference.

The Design profession shouldn’t solely be reserved for the designer (in developed world), but for everyone! I design for impact and help people bring out their little designer in himself or herself. I am not saying everyone should become a designer, but I do think people can use a little bit of design to help themselves forward in their personal/ professional life.
