LCD Weekly Issue - 046- Disconnect

⛰️ Words from the mountains

Does social media feel like an empty space to you? For me, it feels like a strange void that pulls me in and wastes my time. Rarely does it offer something positive in return. So why do I find myself spending a couple of hours a day there?

In January, I visited a dear friend in Berlin. She had deleted the Instagram app from her phone just days before the U.S. elections, a decision I thought was wise. She wanted to avoid having social media posts influence her state of mind. In contrast, I still had the app, and the endless posts on the topic made me feel nervous and anxious.

So, what is the point of social media? Is it meant to entertain? I'm not so sure. The amount of misinformation and chaos present on these platforms resonates less and less with me. I came across a wonderful article that I deeply empathized with: "The Social Media Sea of Change" by Anne Helen Petersen.

She writes, "So what is it about this moment that makes leaving—or significantly moderating—feel possible? The platforms feel toxic, but they've felt toxic for a while. They're becoming more degrading, overridden by brands and AI. Their utility for connection—what brought us there in the first place—has deteriorated to the point of uselessness. The cultural norms from 2005 to 2025 were produced and refined via social media, but the homes we built there—the understandings of self—feel unwelcoming and alien."

As a promise to myself, I am removing Instagram from my phone (thank goodness I've never liked TikTok; I deleted my Facebook account more than three years ago, and LinkedIn is just… there). Finally, I might actually get around to reading the tower of books next to my bed!

Are you feeling the same underlying sense that social media is not worth it? That real life is so much better? As social beings, connecting with people in real life—or even in specific online spaces designed for this purpose—brings us joy and a sense of belonging.

Do you dare to disconnect to truly connect?

🐅 LCD In The Wild Akward-Film

As we discuss human connections in this issue, I thought of a fun short film: "Awkward."

"A day full of socially awkward moments.

In this film, I aimed to highlight the everyday social awkwardness people encounter, adding a layer of embarrassment and a dash of absurdity."

It will definitely bring a smile to your face! Haha!

🔥 Hot in the School Design Festival!

Let’s start with the Updates!

First, we've moved the festival dates to October 2-4, 2025. We needed more time to create a transformational experience, so this change was the right choice.

We've partnered with our dear friends at Pupila to bring you an epic event in the mountains! Soon, the festival will have its official name, soul, and website 🥁🏔️.

Our three-day program is taking shape as an inspiring blend of design, art, and local wisdom from nature. The speakers and workshops are almost finalized, and we are honored to have such a diverse and inspirational lineup (more details on that soon).

Lastly, we're looking for sponsors! If you have a lead or are interested in sponsoring, please reply to this email.

We can't wait to host you in our paradise!

I am a passionate designer and mountain biker focusing on bringing people forward using a human centered approach. As a designer you could call what I do Social Design, but nowadays there are hundreds of different design names. So for me I am a designer and try to be humble to the world. I like solving issues together with other people in co-design and I love helping people reach there goals.

I find inspiration in mountain biking, traveling and in my current home the Spanish Pyrenees. I use sports, traveling and being outside to get inspired for my work as a designer.

Design to me is constantly shitifing between making meaningful products to creating impactful and real solutions/ approaches/ business that can make a difference.

The Design profession shouldn’t solely be reserved for the designer (in developed world), but for everyone! I design for impact and help people bring out their little designer in himself or herself. I am not saying everyone should become a designer, but I do think people can use a little bit of design to help themselves forward in their personal/ professional life.
